A pioneer who was associated with the life of Downie township for 78 years of her life, passed away Friday in the person of Mrs. Charles Cosstick. She died at her home on concession 3, lot 8 of Downie, where she has lived for 53
years. The late Mrs. Cosstick was born on the farm immediately behind the one on which she died (concession 4. lot 8) on May 17, 1845. About 55 years ago, as Miss Caroline Dawe, she married Charles Cosstick, who
      predeceased her in 1896.

She leaves to mourn her loss seven sons: Charles & Richard
of Stratford; William of Vancouver; James of Port Huron; George of Glencoe; Herbert of Iowa and Robert at home; three daughters: Mrs. John Gamble of Port Huron; Mrs. George Pike of Downie and Mrs L. Headley at home, one brother John Dawe of Stratford and a sister Mrs. H. Simpson of Mitchell at present in Pittsburg.

The late Mrs. Cosstick often recounted reminisceneses of the old days in the county. She could remember when our city hall was virgin forest. When a young girl she became lost in the woods while going from one part of the city to another. The funeral will be held from her home on Monday. The services will be conducted by Canon W. Cluff of St. James church. Interment will be in Avondale Cemetery.
